Fans of the Gears of War series from Coalition have something to look forward to in the coming year. Microsoft had created quite a buzz during E3 2015 when it said that it was working on this franchise so as to bring it to a new generation of players. According to Microsoft, the developer is working on Gears of War 4 to be released in 2016, and its beta version will be available in the first half of the year.
This third-person shooter video game series has acquired cult status and the game that will be released is the fifth in the highly successful series. The franchise was originally owned by Epic Games until it was purchased by Microsoft. The franchise has earned more than $1 billion in revenue from the time the first game was released in 2006.
Microsoft also has good news for people who would like to play the original (and some would say best) game on its newest generation of consoles. Long time fans of the franchise as well as gamers who haven?t had the opportunity to play it can both check it out now that it will be available digitally remastered for Xbox One. It will be known as Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and it will have all the thrills of the original game, but with additional gameplay and a whole lot of other refinements to suit the needs of video gamers.
Gears of War: Ultimate Edition has been built from scratch and the developer has poured a lot of effort into it, with the entire process taking approximately 18 months. In fact, this is the reason that only the first game could be remastered and not the entire series. Since it has been made for the Xbox One, it has 1080p and 60 fps that give an excellent experience. There are 19 maps now and six different game modes. There are also five new campaign chapters that were not available before. The audio matches the high quality of the video.
The beta version of Ultimate Edition did have quite a few glitches, but they have now been sorted out by the developers. There?s a lot of work going on behind the scenes to ensure that the launch goes ahead seamlessly!
Microsoft offers the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition bundle with a 500GB Xbox One Console and wireless controller as well as initial access to the new game due to be released in 2016 in addition to a few other freebies. It can now be pre-ordered and will be available on 25 August this year.
Incidentally, there will also be a PC version released sometime later in the year. There is no indication as of now from Coalition or Microsoft whether the other games in the series will also be remastered, but going by the look of this one, there is sure to be demand for it.
Microsoft has also announced that Xbox One will have backwards compatibility whereby a few, but not all, Xbox 360 games can be played on the Xbox One. It?s believed that Gears of War 2 and 3 will have this feature.
