Zero Mention of FF14 on the Xbox One!
The Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has driven many people crazy with its amazing gaming features. After the game was launched a few years ago, it gained a lot of attention. The game made its way onto the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 as well as on computers. However, it was surprising to see that there was no mention of Xbox One in this list. Although the issue is not too grave to be talked about, but when some big brands are involved, it definitely becomes the talk of the town. This is what Phil Spencer, the Xbox boss has to say about this development.
In the words of Spencer
In an interview with IGN, Phil Spencer said the reason behind the absence of Realm Reborn on Xbox is ‘exclusivity’. Although he denied avoided more explanation over the issue, he remarked that he has comprehended the third party exclusivity over the years. He is not a great fan of such things and so, does not encourage it much. In addition to this, Spencer also remarks over third party developers.
He says that various kinds of deals happen as a part of this business, but he does not believe in embracing any deal. He added that he wishes to have strong third party relations, but is not ready to pay for third-party exclusives. Microsoft can control its ties with the outside studios for limited features and content instead of complete exclusives for third party games. Some major examples include Microsoft’s partnership with Electronic Arts for EA Access and Fallout 4 launching first on Xbox One and then the others.
Nonetheless, Microsoft does have some major third-party exclusive games in its bag including Rise of the Tomb Raider, which is lined-up for Xbox One. However, Spencer has made it clear that it is not a traditional third-party exclusivity arrangement. At present, the company is actively engaged in the development of the game and is looking forward to serve as its publisher. Not only this, but Spencer also said that that the owners of Xbox One should not anticipate much more third party exclusives. It is simply because the company wants to emphasise more on its own franchises first.
Remarks of Andrew House
Andrew House, the PlayStation Executive mentioned a few months ago that the content deals of the third parties are a part of the business plan of the company. He cited examples like Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Street Fighter V and Destiny and mentioned that they are integral to the company. Andrew concluded that it is a very crucial area for Sony because the first line-up of PS4 is a little scarce.
Sometime back, the same issue was witnessed with Capcom and Microsoft when the Street Fighter V was launched. The game was all-exclusive to PS4 and is not timed exclusive either. It makes it clear that Street Fighter V will not be available on Xbox One and same goes for the Realm Reborn. More discussions and debates are expected to be surfaced soon.
